Helen was thankful for the things that her mother had taught her and for the access to the Tarclaver libraries that her mother had obtained for her. Clara did not have these things. There was no schooling at all in Septemberclaver. But Clara's father was a Games Master. Clara could run and work out in a gym, where forbidden books were hidden in a punching bag, And it was Clara who had suggested that Helen prepare for her journey by walking around Tarclaver.
