Along the Eastern side of the swimming pool was a wide ledge,
tiled in the same blue-green tiles with which the pool was lined.
On this ledge was a small table with two chairs.
Dorothy and Sid sat there in the early morning,
I imagined,
drinking coffee, looking at the foothills of Mount Tam
which were visible though the gap between the front and back sections of the house.

The pool -- it was almost the length of the courtyard --
was set in a natural environment of native grasses, Monterrey pines, and wild blueberry bushes.
Perhaps in the mornings, Dorothy and Sid swam together
and then sat in the sun with coffee and croissants.
